A Chalk that Cleans and Colours

Take the widespread challenge of hygiene amongst kids.

And a schoolchild covered in chalk.

Now how about harnessing the power of design thinking to solve both issues simultaneously?

Savlon have done just that. Focusing on rural areas, where access to hand wash may be limited, they ingeniously combine something they already have: chalk from using their chalkboards (and wiping away with their hand) with soap to improve hygiene habits while making it fun!

Impact:

  • Savlon Swasth India Mission was rolled out in more than 3700 schools from 2016-2017. The school programme reached more than 1.7 million children in states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand and Karnataka.
  • It got Ogilvy seven out of its total nine-metal-haul at the Cannes Ad Fest 2017
