Genderless Nipples campaign challenges Instagram’s nudity policy

The greatest ideas are often the simplest. This campaign to kick-start a conversation around nudity censorship on Instagram is built on a simple observation: A nipple is a nippel wether it’s a man’s or woman’s. So what level of nudity should be allowed digitally? It’s a difficult question to answer as different platforms put forward their policies and the societal norms get pushed. In arts there’s always been a more liberal view on nudity and often nudity has been an art statement in itself. But although it’s a great campaign, Instagram don’t seem open to free the nipple any day soon.

The Instagram account, @genderless_nipples, is using closeup images of nipples to test Instagram’s policy on female nudity. The account publishes user-submitted photos of both male and female nipples, drawing attention to the double standard in Instagram’s moderation policy. The bio reads: “Men are allowed to show their nipples, women’s get banned. Support ALL genders! Let’s change this policy!” The campaign has been made by a couple of Miami Ad School students Evelyne Wyss, Marco Russo and Morgan-Lee Wagner.

Impact:
The account @genderless_nipples now has +63,3K followers.
